Description POSITION SUMMARY The Driver helps create a joyful and vibrant experience for seniors in our community by supervising and coordinating transportation to and from activities and community-related events and by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Participates in outings.
- Drives community transportation vehicle safely for outings.
- Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
- Complies with local traffic regulations.
- Reports delays or accidents.
- Inspects vehicle; checks gas, oil, and water before departure.
- Keeps the vehicle clean and organized inside and out at all times.
- Reports and documents any items in need of repair or service.
- If needed, secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
- Cleans and services vehicle with fuel as needed.
- Keeps records of trips.
- Maintains a professional and caring attitude toward seniors. Must be kind and patient.
- Knows all documentation procedures and how to use emergency log.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS - A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience driving a van/bus.
- 1 year of experience in working with seniors preferred.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must pass a criminal background and fingerprint check.
- Valid State driver's license and participate in driver safety training.
- Has compassion and a special interest in working with the senior population.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to relate positively and communicate appropriately with seniors, community members, volunteers and other employees.
- Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for seniors, staff, and visitors.
