Overview:

M&H Valve is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Specialist in Anniston Alabama.

Summary

Overall responsibility for appropriate movement of goods in and out of the facility while maintaining a neat and well-organized work area. This includes verification and recording of incoming shipments, arranging and preparing items for outgoing shipments. Attention to details, accuracy, and organizational skills are of utmost importance.

Responsibilities:

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively exhibits and promotes The McWane Way Principles.
  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities ( Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Determines shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Contacts carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Routinely monitors status of incoming and outgoing freight in various online tracking software.
  • Accurately updates internal ERP software with arrival and departure information.
  • Records shipment data, such as counts, weight, space availability, damages, discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes and makes adjustments as appropriate.
  • Prepares documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders to route materials.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Schedules and builds loads to ship to meet production schedule and customer delivery requirements.
  • Examines shipment contents and compares with records, such as manifests, invoices, or others, to verify accuracy.
  • Investigates discrepancies by effectively communicating with vendors and others outside the department.
  • Validates previous freight data once truckload has been completed.
  • Posts freight and shipping charges to all sales orders.
  • Confers or corresponds with internal and external customers to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications or complaints.
  • Packs, seals, labels, or affixes postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools or postage meters, as appropriate.
  • Requisitions and stores shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Answer shipping and scheduling questions all internal and external customers.
  • Periodically prepares reports for management.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; Microsoft AX experience preferred.
  • Two years experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or supply chain required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication required.
  • Must have ability to be self-directed and manage competing priorities in a deadline driven environment.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and present effectively before groups of customers, clients, drivers, or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide. Uses mathematics to solve problems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and ability to use software for inventory, order processing, spreadsheet, word processing and interaction with freight vendors.
