Planner 1 - Charlotte
McAdams is adding to our growing transportation planning practice and is searching for the right planner to join our team. The selected candidate will possess strong analytical, communication and plan production skills and experience. The ideal candidate will be mentored by senior planning professionals and will be encouraged to pursue licensure as appropriate.
Essential Functions + Responsibilities

  • Be proficient in the application of basic transportation planning concepts and techniques at a variety of scales.
  • Under close supervision, responsible for preparation and completion of tasks supporting our transportation planning, active transportation, and grant funding advisory practices that are responsive to project needs. These tasks include the production of planning documents, reports, grant narratives, correspondence, or environmental documents; assist with conducting surveys; and the facilitation of public meetings and steering committee meetings.
  • Collect, analyze, maintain and present data and public input.
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to analyze demographics, trends, survey inputs and spatial data and create high-quality maps and cartographic products.
  • Conduct field observations and data collection activities.
  • Development of project strategy for each project that identifies milestones, appropriate planning techniques to be applied, stakeholders, schedule and overall project objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineers to analyze technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.

  • Execute planning work under direct supervision
  • Complete work accurately and in accordance with good planning codes and practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field.
  • 0-2 years active transportation experience in the public or private sector (including internships).
  • Proficiency in Esri GIS software.
  • Proficiency in demographic analysis of US Census data.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and oral communications skills are required.
