Job SummaryUnder general supervision, safely operates commercial vehicles in loading and unloading crane equipment from trailers, as well as assisting in the setup of the crane once it is on site. The operator will be responsible for performing pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the safe operation as well as perform routine vehicle inspections in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Operators may be required to work long hours and be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The cranes in the fleet range in size from a 23-ton boom truck to a 900-ton Liebherr model LTM 1750 - 9.1.Benefits include insurance (medical, dental, vision, and life), paid time off, paid holidays, and Employer contribution to 401(k). Examples of Duties and ResponsibilitiesCleans crane mechanisms by lubricating and maintaining mechanisms such as boom, cables, pulleys, and grappling devices.Determines load weights by checking weights against lifting capacities and works toward preventing equipment overload.Inspects crane equipment that includes structures and/or materials, finds causes and errors, along with other problems or defects.Uses hand and voice signals for installing, positioning, handling, and moving materials and manipulating things with crane equipment.Directs activities of oilers, truck drivers, or riggers in setting up and tearing down the equipment to insure the use of proper cribbing.Completes and understands job tickets so the customer can accept responsibility for work performed.Operates commercial trucks safely by maneuvering, navigating, and driving vehicles or mechanical equipment safely and can include forklifts and passenger vehicles.Adheres strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and state laws to ensure compliance.Performs physical activities that require the use of arms and legs such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.May serve as a rigger, signalman, or crane setup assistant as needed.Responsible for tracking and reporting hours for routine maintenance.Maintain vehicle each day by fueling up, hooking up, cleaning out, and washing to be ready for the next day.Demonstrate professional conduct while having direct contact with all customers-paying, public, and company employees.Performs related assignments as required. RequirementsKnowledge, Skill, and AbilitiesKnowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations, and the precautions necessary to prevent accidents. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine and heavy manual work for an extended period under difficult weather conditions; ability to lift and carry heavy equipment; good physical condition. Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work under pressure effectively. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.Education, Training, and ExperienceCompletion of ninth grade required. High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be at least 18 years old with two years of verifiable recent experience driving a Class A commercial vehicle, possesses a current Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL), an acceptable moving violations record, and a current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card. Experience in crane operations with current licensures from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and applicable state licensing. Experience with Grove, Link Belt, and Liebherr cranes preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.Special RequirementsPosition requires the passing of a road test.Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, and airborne particles with a moderate noise level.Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level as part of a team.Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and DOT physical.
