Job Description

The Clinical Assistant performs both administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a certified medical assistant, physician and/or the practice administrator. Administrative duties may include maintaining medical records, verifying prescriptions, entering data into the EMR, and assembling obstetric packets for patients. Clinical duties may include retrieving patients from waiting areas, rooming patients, taking and recording vital signs for patients, verifying and updating patient information in the EMR, preparing patients for examination, and stocking examination rooms. Clinical assistants will assist certified medical assistants with day-to-day administrative and clinical tasks, and may assist the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients with certified medical assistant presence and as requested by physicians.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:•Retrieves patients from waiting areas and escorts them to the exam room for their visit (conduct rooming activities for all OB and GYN patients),•Verifies and updates patient allergies, medication list, and active pharmacy in the EMR.•Determines the chief complaint for the visit for GYN patients.•Measures patient vital signs, weight, and height.•Records patient's medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in EMR.•Takes fluid samples and conducts urine pregnancy tests, hemoglobin, and glucose tests.•Alerts CMA and physicians to any patient needs or changes.•Scans clinical, back-office consent forms into patient charts.•Consistently rounds on the practice to ensure patients are where they need to be.•Prepares exam rooms for patient examinations, turns over exam rooms after each patient.•Keeps the exam rooms clean and stocked. •Stocks practice restrooms with supplies, and alerts CMA when supplies need to be ordered.•Wipes down and organizes work-up stations.•Puts away incoming supply orders.•Sets up the lab and creates specimen labels for each physician and APP.•Floats to help medical assistants and providers, as needed.•Cleans and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies; Cleans hemocues.•Washes and prepares speculum for autoclave.•Preps pregnancy confirmation folders and 16-week pregnancy bags for the practice.•With a CMA present and at the request of a provider, assists with in-office examinations and medical procedures including LEEP procedures, IUD insertion, colposcopies, among others.•With a CMA present and at the request of a provider, helps physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. •Assists the RN with NST vitals, when needed.•Performs general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms, as needed.•Contacts medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission, as needed.•Other front- and back-office duties as assigned.Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:•Knowledge of patient care processes, coupled with ability to proactively implement knowledge.•Knowledge of office policies and procedures to accurately answer questions from patients.•Knowledge and correct usage of medical terminology.•Ability to navigate and effectively use EMR. •Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.•Ability to effectively and clearly communicate in writing, over the telephone, and in person with physicians, office staff, and patients.•Ability to work as part of a team and promote a positive work environment.•Ability to listen and understand information and ideas and adjust actions accordingly.•Ability to maintain professional attire.•Ability to complete continued education/training requirements.•Ability to report to work on time and as scheduled.•Ability to represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.•Ability to communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization.•Ability to apply feedback, participate in performance improvement, and continuous quality improvement activities.•Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, and the public.•Skilled in monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.•Skilled in organization, attention to detail, and task prioritization.•Skilled in understanding patient needs to provide exceptional customer service.Education and Experience:•High school diploma (or GED) required.•Must have 1-2 years of prior experience working as a patient care tech, clinical assistant, or in a medical practice setting.Physical Requirements:•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.•Prolonged periods of periods of walking, standing and bending.•Frequent speaking and communication required.•Must be able to lift and carry up to 15-25 pounds at times. •Must have full range of body motion.•Must have full gross and fine hand manipulation.
