Job Summary:

The primary role of the Athletic Trainer is to provide services including prevention, diagnosis, and management of injuries/illnesses within the AT scope of practice to area schools, colleges, professional organizations and/or other community partners. Responsibilities include development/implementation of Emergency Action Plans, coordination of event medical coverage, communication plans, documentation of care plans, and assists department leadership to ensure appropriate supplies and support are available.

The Athletic Trainer may also function as a physician extender, supporting patient care in our sports medicine physician office settings. The Athletic Trainer may also assist with treatment of patients in the clinical outpatient setting.

Will also assist with system initiatives such as marketing efforts, community benefits reporting, research projects, community education, and other strategic initiatives as appropriate.

Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Job Description:

  • Provide medical coverage, including the prevention, diagnosis, and management of injuries. This includes appropriate documentation and coordination of plan of care.
  • Coordinates appropriate levels of post-injury care including management of referrals and return to play protocols and communicating plan of care. Assesses and implements proper bracing/taping/equipment needs.
  • Coordinates communication with parents, administration, physicians, and other healthcare providers involved in the care and management of the patient outreach program.
  • Participate in staff education and in-service programs, documentation reviews, performance improvement, system initiatives and other similar activities.
  • May assist with other sports medicine duties including, but not limited to, physician extender duties, concussion management, pre participation physicals, research projects, or other initiatives within our outreach programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Master’s degree in athletic training or related field (effective 2023 new graduate requirement)
  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field (grandfathered pre-2023
  • National certification from Board of Certification (BOC) – National Trainers Association
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state where work is being performed.
  • BLS/CPR Certification
  • *Must obtain Regular (Non- Temporary) Licensure in the state where work is being performed within 6 months of employment

Specialized Knowledge: 

Expertise in prevention, diagnosis, and management of musculoskeletal injuries

Broad range of injury management including both musculoskeletal, concussion, and emergency care

Knowledge of Athletic Training regulatory issues
