Job Title: Superintendent – ICI Construction

Location: Guelph, Canada

Salary: Up to $140,000 per year (based on experience)



Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to lead the on-site management of Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction execution, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with high-quality standards. This role demands strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and in-depth knowledge of ICI construction processes.

As a Superintendent, you will manage the daily activities on-site, coordinate trades, enforce safety regulations, and serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and project teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring that projects are delivered according to specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Site Management: Supervise all trades and subcontractors, ensuring that work is completed to company and industry standards.
  • Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and maintain construction schedules, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure that labor, materials, and equipment are used efficiently.
  • Safety Oversight: Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations on the job site, implementing safety protocols and conducting regular inspections.
  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality of workmanship and materials, ensuring that construction complies with contract documents, building codes, and standards.
  • Problem Solving: Address and resolve any on-site issues or challenges, such as delays, design conflicts, or material shortages, to maintain project momentum.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and project managers. Provide updates on project progress and address any concerns.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, progress reports, and safety documentation. Provide regular updates to the project management team.
  • Cost Control: Monitor on-site expenses and assist in managing project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources to prevent cost overruns.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all construction activities are in line with local building codes, environmental regulations, and permits.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a Superintendent role within ICI construction (industrial, commercial, institutional projects).
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes specific to ICI sectors.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and lead on-site construction teams and subcontractors effectively.
  • Education: Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Red Seal Certification or other relevant trade qualifications is an asset.
  • Safety Certifications: Valid certifications in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and Occupational Health & Safety . Knowledge of OHSA regulations and safety protocols is essential.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, trades, and internal teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Resourceful, with the ability to anticipate challenges and resolve issues quickly.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with construction management software and tools (such as Procore, Microsoft Project, or similar) and familiar with blueprint reading.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on quality, safety, and compliance to ensure that projects meet the highest standards.
  • Ability to Work Under Pressure: Capable of managing multiple priorities and delivering results in high-pressure environments.
