Job Description

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who assesses the functional abilities of a service user, determines and implements a treatment and intervention plan, develops, restores or maintains abilities, finds ways to compensate for incapacities and attenuate situations of impairment, and adapts the environment in order to promote optimal autonomy. She/he participates in clinical instruction.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
In addition to clinical requirements, the individual may be called upon to participate in regional projects.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:

  • Must hold a master's degree in occupational therapy;
  • Member of the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ).

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist in various fields and programs;
  • Experience in community interventions and coordination of service plans is an asset;
  • Experience working with individuals, families and community organizations;
  • Experience in an indigenous environment is an asset.

Knowledge and abilities:

  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to change in a clinical setting;
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and good communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Integrate cultural safety into practice, coaching and transfer of learning;
  • Ability to integrate Eeyou Istchee culture, values, traditions and teachings into programs and services whenever possible;
  • Knowledge of professional standards, clinical practice guidelines and legislation;
  • Good understanding of health issues as they relate to functional rehabilitation;
  • Excellent research skills and ability to apply evidence-based practice to clinical situations in an Aboriginal context;
  • Autonomy, discretion and empathy.

LANGUAGE* Fluent in English;* Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.
