This position is responsible for the machining required by work orders, including but not limited to set up, production, and inspection of all machining assigned by Shop Supervisor. Machinist IV is required to follow all StoneAge safety guidelines to produce parts that will meet or exceed StoneAge and customer specifications. This position is expected to lead by example and play a large role in developing other Machinists, encouraging others to grow in the trade.
This position reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor and has the starting pay of $28-$32/hour depending on experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This person will:
- Complete assigned work orders that require machining in a reasonable time while maintaining the desired quality.
- Complete 1st article inspections on all orders and aspire to have less than 3 parts rejected by Quality Control per year.
- Assist Machinist I's with 1st article inspections as needed.
- Be a good mentor. Interact with all other levels of machinists and help them constructively and positively. You are expected to play a large role in training.
- Complete daily maintenance/recordkeeping on machines; keep the workspace organized and clean.
- Maintain accurate records in EPICOR concerning the time to complete the job, completed quantity, and scrap quantity.
- Be an active member of the Machine Shop Team. Participating in team meetings and shop projects.
- Contribute to the senior machinist group, helping evaluate team members and researching new processes and tooling. A senior-level machinist is expected to help others keep machines running and parts flowing.
- Fill in for the Machine Shop Supervisor, providing lead times for sales and prioritizing workflow for machines.
- Work with machine manufacturers and field technicians to troubleshoot machines and execute simple repairs.
- Support Machine Shop Team Members by producing and submitting ECRs as needed; Acting as the first filter in the ECR process.
- Actively participate in Build Reviews; describing any struggles and suggestions for machine-ability.
- Work closely and constructively with other departments including engineering, production coordination, purchasing, facilities, and quality control.
- Convey any needed information to vendors as to setup, order of operations, tooling, etc., to aid in their success.
- Communicate time off requests, as well as personnel and shop issues to the Machine Shop Supervisor.
- Perform other duties required or requested by Machine Shop Supervisor.
Requirements KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
A Machinist IV must:
- Lead with an "Own-it" mentality.
- Produce solid setups on CNC machinery that yield efficiency and quality parts. Actively assist Machinist I, II, and III with setups.
- Work closely with Engineering while machining complex parts. Positively provide input and suggestions.
- Expert level of MasterCam use. The ability to troubleshoot and perform complex operations. Support and train lower-level MasterCam users.
- Be master-level in the use of manual mills, manual lathes, band saws, benders, and engravers.
- Observe/listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments/repairs.
- Turn parts around in an extremely quick time to meet customer needs. Approach every job with a "Can-do" attitude.
- Assist Apprentice and Junior Level Machinist regarding tooling choice.
- Grind and produce custom tooling as needed.
- Sharpen tooling including drill bits, end mills, and carbide tooling.
- Read and interpret engineering prints including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and teach other machinists.
- Possess the knowledge of the use and care of measuring tools.
OTHER INFORMATION
- Machinist IV must be able to stand for extended periods.
- Machinist IV must be able to lift heavy loads using proper lifting techniques as outlined in the StoneAge Employee Handbook
- Some Travel may be required.
- Extended working hours may be required.
