Job Description / Essential Elements: JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Principal or Head Custodian, keeps assigned rooms, areas of buildings, or office spaces clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly; performs other work as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but not limited to:
1.Working from oral and written instructions and assignments
2.Sweep, scrub, mop, wax, or buff floors or other building surfaces with hand
tools and/or machines
3.Vacuum rugs and carpets
4.Dust and polish furniture and woodwork
5.Empty and clean waste receptacles
6.Remove cobwebs
7.Clean blackboards, windows, mirrors, and walls
8.Scrub, clean, and disinfect restrooms, shower rooms, and locker rooms
and fills soap and paper dispensers
9. Polish metal work
10.Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment
11.Clean and adjust desks and other furniture
12.Set up buildings and rooms for meetings and special events
13.Replace lights
14.Adjust shades and blinds
15.Scrape and refinish floors
16.Perform minor painting and minor repairs on furniture, equipment and
facilities
17.Pick up paper on grounds and walks
18.Unlock and lock doors to buildings
19.Raise or lower flag
20.Perform routine grounds keeping duties
21.Assist in restoration of buildings and grounds during school vacation
22.Help unload merchandise received at schools or District office
23.Supervise work of student assistants
24.Report unsafe conditions
25.Perform, as directed, other duties consistent with the general areas of
responsibility surrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Application of:
Methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures; cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work; common hand tools and machines.
Ability to:
•Quickly learn the schedules, procedures, and equipment used in custodial
and grounds work
•Use common electrical cleaning equipment
•Read and write and carry out oral and written instructions
•Establish and maintain cooperative relations with fellow employees,
teachers, students, and visitors to the school
•Read printed material
•Hear and speak to sufficiently conduct normal in-person and telephone
conversations
•Perform manual labor, including the lifting and/or moving of objects weighing
up to 75 pounds.
Education / Experience:
High school diploma or GED required
One year of work experience, preferably including some custodial or janitorial work.
Salary Level: 34 - Classified Salary Schedule
Requirements / Qualifications On-call position. Hours and school sites vary depending on need.
