Overview Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Provides circulating and/or scrub nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, following established standards and practices.
Responsibilities Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems. May assume responsibility for department in absence of supervisor.
Assists supervisor with orientation, instruction/training, and supervision of subordinate personnel. Supervise students.
Attends required meetings, in-services, educational programs.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Provides recovery room nursing services after surgical procedures are completed; transports patient to post operative unit and reports to receiving nurses.
Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.
Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs; sets goals; prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e., physicians, nurse manager, and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.
Initiates and leads team conferences in development of individualized nursing care plans.
Administers medications and performs treatments to assigned patients.
Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Assists team members in giving care to patients, or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and judgement are needed.
Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
Establishes and maintains communications and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients, and other significant individuals.
Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest.
Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
Participates actively in the improvement of nursing care.
Provides direct care and assessment of patients with ages varying from neonates, children, adolescents, and adults through the elderly.
Qualifications Education: Graduate of state board School of Nursing with current Alabama or multi-state licensure
Experience: Additional Skill/Abilities: Current CPR
, ACLS and PALS or willing to obtain during the initial orientation period of employment
