The Registered Nurse in Intensive Care develops specialized skill to care for critically ill unstable patients. The RN develops a strong working knowledge of life support machines, cardiac monitoring systems and other life preserving medical equipment and nursing interventions essential for a critical care nurse. The RN is accountable for patient family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization including lifestyle changes to support health and healing.
