This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Consultant, Roadway Engineer for our Raleigh, NC office. The successful candidate should have entry-level analytic and design skills and the ability to solve basic technical problems in a professional discipline. Your Impact Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers to execute project work on multiple projects. Develop designs, calculations, sketches, plans, and estimates for new/widened roadways, intersection improvements, bike and pedestrian facilities under the supervision of an experienced engineer. Carry out project tasks under the supervision of an experienced design engineer, including tasks that may require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Demonstrate commitment to high quality technical performance, utilizing current technical knowledge and applications. Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, and utilities, etc. Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Regularly coordinate and communicate with project teams, manager, and civil team. Attend and participate in project team meetings. Ability to learn and grow to produce high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals. Utilize computer software tools and applications to solve basic engineering problems. Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience). 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Familiarity in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, Geopak, AutoCAD, or Autodesk Civil3D. Experience with developing technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. Experience with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets and other design tools. Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. Demonstrates willingness to be a team player and is responsive, reliable, and collaborative. Pursues professional development and training. Ability and desire to learn new techniques, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies. Assists in developing schedules and objectives for responsible work, while proactively communicating completion estimates to managing engineer. Commitment to upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Flexible to meet a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
