Job Description

HR Director

As a leader in the construction industry, my client is looking for a hands-on HR Director to lead our HR strategy across both Canadian and U.S. operations. This is a dynamic, action-oriented position where you will roll up your sleeves to drive impactful HR initiatives and support a growing team in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in HR, with substantial experience in a leadership role. Previous experience in the construction and/or manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong capabilities in strategic planning, with the ability to develop long-term HR plans that align with business objectives.
  • Hands-On Leadership: Ability to actively engage with and support teams across the organization, from recruitment to performance management.
  • HR Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HR legal and regulatory frameworks in both Canada and the U.S., including federal, state, and province-specific labor legislation.
  • HR Expertise: Strong understanding of various HR functions, best practices, and the ability to apply them in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable in a lean, growing organization where roles are fluid and everyone is expected to contribute beyond the standard scope.

Your Role:

As the HR Director, you will play a key role in shaping the HR strategy while also diving into the day-to-day work necessary to support our growing operations. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to align HR strategies with business goals and ensure compliance with evolving labor laws in both Canada and the U.S. In this hands-on role, you will also directly contribute to employee development, talent acquisition, and workplace culture.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic HR Planning: Develop and implement HR strategies that align with business objectives, analyzing needs, forecasting HR requirements, and setting departmental goals.
  • Leadership Collaboration: Partner with leaders to understand business challenges and opportunities, providing HR insights to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with HR-related legal frameworks in both Canada and the U.S., staying updated on changes in employment laws.
  • Workforce Development: Lead initiatives focused on recruitment, talent retention, and workforce planning, while fostering a culture of performance and development.
  • Training & Development: Oversee the design and implementation of programs that support skill-building, career progression, and leadership development for employees.
  • HR Best Practices: Drive HR excellence by promoting best practices across all functions, from recruitment to employee relations and compensation.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and develop the HR team, ensuring they have the support and resources to thrive in a hands-on, results-driven environment.
