Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor position at our Steele, Alabama coatings site. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will supervise, coordinate, train, motivate and mentor shipping/receiving employees and manage the day to day process.  Under the direction of the site Operations Manager, this position is accountable for supervising and coordinating the shipping and receiving of product to meet schedule, quality, quantity, and cost requirements. 

Additionally, you will…

  • Directly supervise the Shipping and Receiving Department.
  • Review and validate shipping instructions and schedules
  • Coordinate Shipping and Receiving functions and communicate with Equipment Operators, Production Supervisors, Crew Leads, and Scheduler
  • Monitor and audit incoming and outgoing shipping activities of customer material
  • Handle yard storage and inventories of customer materials
  • Complete root cause investigations of damages or shortages in customer loads
  • Be actively engaged in Safety Meetings, Training and Mentoring

What it takes

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 3 years experience in supervision.
  • 2 years experience in Shipping and Receiving
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and side loader equipment.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • Bachelors Degree and 3 years of relevant experience or Associates Degree with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to communicate and interact with co-workers in a positive manner

  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Knowledge/use of visual shop or SAP

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

The work environment for this position is indoor/outdoor.  The incumbent may be required to work outside inspecting product and directing incoming material flow where s/he may be exposed to mild to extremely warm/cold weather, humidity, rain or intense sun exposure, dirt, grease, fumes, noise, dust, airborne particles, and smoke. .  The secondary work environment for this position is an indoor office where a desk, and personal computer are available for administrative tasks.  The incumbent will be required to wear safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, reflective vest, long sleeves, blue jeans or work pants and steel-toed boots with a built in met guard.  The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, squat, stoop, push, pull, reach, grasp, hold and carry for various periods of time.  The incumbent may be assigned to work additional hours as needed.  At this time, this position is dedicated day shift hours, but the incumbent must recognize and be prepared to work at all other times as needed.  This position may also be required to work weekends dependent upon business or maintenance requirements.

A Brief Summary of This Position:

This supervisor will provide leadership and direction to the Shipping & Receiving department, focusing on process improvement, metrics, standards and people.  The incumbent must be an individual that is confident, hands-on, and willing to learn.  This position manages the Shipping & Receiving operation including oversight of safety, receiving product, shipping product, quality, 2 shifts, scheduling of 3 trucks and a shipping clerk.  This position demonstrates the ability and self-discipline to carefully and accurately run a department, as well as the development and coaching of people.  The incumbent in this position must ensure a safe work environment, plan appropriate staffing levels, train employees in proper work technique, work with HR on employee relations issues including providing regular feedback to employees which will enhance development opportunities.  Also, handling employee discipline/corrective actions. This is a working supervisory position that will fill in as needed on crane, forklifts and desk clerk.
