Position: Bus Driver
Responsible To: Transportation Supervisor
Job Goal To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.
Qualifications - Valid Alabama, CDL and school bus driver's license required or a willingness to acquire one.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must meet all local, state, and federal licensing requirements and regulations required to operate a school bus and automobile.
- Must pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the Board's policies regarding drug testing.
- Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
- Meets all the physical, mental and moral requirements established by district, federal rule, state law, .
- Being physically qualified.
- Communications in a courteous professional manner with student, parents, and school district personnel.
- A suitable dressed, neat and clean appearance.
- All drivers once employed are subject to Federal Commercial Driver License Drug and Alcohol laws, including random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities - Obeys all traffic laws.
- Copes with stressful situations.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintains discipline with students.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Strives to maintain assigned schedule.
- Completes accurate daily pre-trip check and appropriate form.
- Notifies the Supervisor of Transportation in case of mechanical failure, tardiness, or absenteeism by the designated time.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students, coaches, teachers and chaperones.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Enforces regulations of student bus responsibilities.
- Develops and maintains accurate LEFT/RIGHT sheets that are clear for sub use.
- Conducts appropriate school bus evacuation training.
- Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).
- Other duties as assigned by the superintendent or his/her designee.
Conduct Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
Each staff member shall serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Each staff member has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Terms of employment Bus drivers will work the number of student days plus any in-service days. Work year to be established by the Board of Education.
