Director of Education - EYC
Temporary, Part-time .60FTE (2024/25 School Year)
The Bridge Educational Society is seeking a Director of Education - Early Years Centre (EYC) to join our established Early Years Operation. The Director of Education EYC serves in a key leadership role and works in a collaborative and/or consultative manner with The Bridge Educational Society (BES) stakeholders to support its’ mission, vision and values. The Director of Education EYC is responsible for upholding the legal and educational standards and compliance for operating a Waldorf child care center in the province of British Columbia, including but not limited to curriculum quality and student safety.
In collaboration with the Director of Administration, the Director of Education - Okanagan Waldorf School (OWS), and the (ECE) faculty and staff of EYC, this position isco- responsible for a congenial working relationship and healthy flow of information between the working realms of the BES. This position requires an interest and commitment to the study of anthroposophy, and of keeping Waldorf principles alive in the education and culture of the school. This position is open until filled.
The ideal candidate is Waldorf Early Childhood trained and required to hold a BC ECE Certificate. Applicants that have 3-5 years minimum of previous experience are highly preferred. The following are preferred qualifications:
- Five years progressively responsible experience in a leadership role in a Waldorf school;
- Experience in human resources including hiring and termination, evaluation, progressive discipline techniques and personnel administration;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work in an extremely busy environment and to keep several projects going at once;
- Knowledge of principles of effective public relations; and,
- Current first aid certificate or a willingness to obtain one.
Responsibilities include the following:
Leadership
- Ensuring educational safety and quality for all students
- Ensuring child care excellence in line with the school’s vision, mission, strategic plan
- Engaging faculty to develop a culture of professional excellence
- Fostering parent satisfaction
- Developing a positive culture and festival life
- Act as EYC Faculty representative for, and attend all, Board meetings.
General
- Be a point of oversight, in collaboration with EYC Manager for program development, enrollment and staff scheduling
- Mediate in situations where parents, staff, or children need support to reach understanding and resolution
- Facilitate the Communications Protocol within the EYC community
- Officiate pedagogical all school events
- Working with the EYC Faculty, and the general Staff and Board members, to plan and facilitate various festivals and supportive community events
- Oversee Parent Education programs
- Support the development of Care Plans and accommodations and attend family meetings as needed.
Pedagogical Administration
- Ensure Waldorf Principles are guiding the program(s)
- Oversee daily child care schedule for children with program leads
- Oversee grade one readiness and parent teacher for Kindergarten
- Oversee pedagogical content in administrative, faculty and parent handbooks, specific policies, procedures and duties
- Participate in the creation of the annual Budget, in collaboration with the Finance Committee, by holding EYC pedagogical needs, vision and health
Collaborative Work with EYC Manager
- Oversee EYC Manager responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Ensuring scheduling and substitution system is effective and needs are met
- Ensuring student record management policies and practices are streamlined, and maintain confidentiality
- Ensuring licensing, risk management and student safety compliance are ensured
- Oversees EYC Human Resources (see below)
Human Resources
- Oversees ongoing professional development and leadership support for direct reports
- Administers regular supportive HR processes and evaluation for director reports, including growth plans
- In collaboration with the EC Manager
- Perform all faculty human resource management including performing teacher observations and evaluations and goal setting
- Ensures onboarding & educational orientation of new faculty; exit interviews and offboarding outgoing faculty in accordance with BES and EYC policy
- Assess and review training needs of faculty for inclusion in the annual budget
- Holds faculty accountable to all BES policies and procedures and handbooks
- Substitute teaching in emergency situations only
SALARY
$70,000 prorated to FTE and based on experience and credentials
