About Downingtown Country Club:
A staple in Chester County for the last half century, the club was constructed by Tabas Enterprises in the late 1950s and opened as the Downingtown Motor Inn, a 100-acre resort complex, which included convention and banquet facilities, outdoor patios, ballrooms, a restaurant and cocktail lounge. Designed by former Pine Valley professional George Fazio, the golf course was opened in 1967, after which the resort became known as Downingtown Inn and Golf Club. The resort was sold off and eventually closed in 1983. T he course had a redesign by Gil Hanse in 1994. At that time Mr. Hanse was a novice in golf course design, and the style used in his redesign of the bunkers at Downingtown became a trademark style of his. Today, the course has been completely restored and is maintained to the highest standard affording golfers a classic layout reflecting many of the great features of traditional Philadelphia golf courses.
