Job Description

The CT technologist performs CT examinations on IP, OP, and ECC patients. Exams are performed per approved radiologist protocol. The technologist obtains patient history, explains procedure, obtains IV access, injects contrast in addition to operating the CT scanner. The CT technologist will perform all duties within the department to include standard exams, biopsies, and other special exams as deemed necessary. The CT technologist will perform any and all duties in addition to meet the needs of the hospital and as deemed necessary by their supervisor.
1. Provides coverage for the department through rotating shifts as required. Provides guidance and instruction for team members, students and ancillary personnel assigned to area.
2. Serves as a role model for patient satisfaction. Uses appropriate scripting and other tools of service excellence to ensure high level of patient satisfaction. Radiological Services Outpatient satisfaction scores meet the goals as established by SRH. 1 point above goal = 4, Goal = 3, 5 points below goal = 2, 6 points below goal = 1. (Goal measured July 1st through June 30th each year.)
3. Graduate of an accredited college of Radiologic Technology. Maintains current licensure required by the ARRT and State of South Carolina, completes required annual competency, CPR, Educode, etc. as deemed necessary by the organization.
4. Provide assistance in dressing or changing seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients. Explain procedure and observe patient to ensure safety and comfort during scan. Sets up examination rooms ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready and needed supplies are readily available. Properly prepare and administer oral contrast media to patient per protocol. Properly prepare IV contrast, obtain IV access, and administer IV contrast media per exam protocol.
5. Perform equipment warm up procedures, calibrations, and quality control according to manufacturer recommendations and accrediting agency requirements. Uses radiation safety measures to include ALARA principle, Image Gently, and Image Wisely. Complies with federal and state regulations to ensure safety of patients, staff, and self. Operate and oversee operation of CT imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes based on provider order, diagnosis, and approved radiologist protocols for CT department.
6. Obtain thorough and accurate patient medical history and communicate to others as necessary for proper patient care. Collaborate with other medical team members such as providers, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other technologists to conduct proper examination per protocol. Obtains necessary images per protocol to include reformatted images and/ or 3D reconstructed images. Monitors video display of area being scanned and adjusts density and contrast to improve image quality. Record, process, and maintain patient data.
7. Coordinate work with clerical personnel or other technologists
8. Collects, maintains, and/or documents information collected for department performance improvement studies as identified by supervisor, quality control, and/ or administration.

Registered Radiologic Technologist by the ARRT. SCRQSA Certification required. Experience and training in high tech imaging modalities, equipment and procedures. Must meet continuing education requirements. Current CPR certification required.
