Position Summary:
  • The Mechanical Design Leader is responsible for managing the mechanical/piping design team. The mechanical design team provides design support for capital projects. The Design Leader is responsible for ensuring all work is completed in adherence to industry codes and standards; AdvanSix corporate and plant standards; and plant health, safety, and environmental guidelines and requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the mechanical/piping design team in supporting capital projects
  • Resource planning and scheduling to meet project objectives and schedule milestones
  • Review design drawing packages for completeness and correctness and ensure compliance to AdvanSix drafting and design standards.
  • Prepare estimates for scoping and detailed piping design
  • Engage in interdisciplinary project reviews with mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation teams
  • Conduct or champion mechanical design review meetings with all stakeholders
  • Ensure QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) requirements are adequately implemented and utilized by the design team
  • Monitor project quality, schedule, and productivity for mechanical design work
  • Establish relationships with the Capital Projects team (multidiscipline engineers, designers, project managers, process engineers, etc.)
  • Evaluate direct reports' performance, prepare development plans, succession plans, and hold regular performance assessment meetings
  • Ensure all team goals and metrics are met or exceeded
  • Drive the mechanical design team to produce high quality deliverables and seek opportunities to maximize efficiency and accuracy
  • Some travel is required (10%)


Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Piping Design
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical/piping design in the petrochemical, power, pharmaceutical, or similar industries required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D)
  • Strong mechanical and piping design background


Additional Qualifications:
  • Leadership experience managing mechanical/piping designers in the petrochemical, power, pharmaceutical, or similar industries
  • Experience with CADWorx design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be customer-focused; dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to perform multiple tasks at a high level of quality
