CCU, RN FTE/Direct hire
Range: $32 to $48
Sign On: $15,000 (at least 1 year experience)
Schedule: 36 hours/week (3 12s)
7a and 7p positions available.
POSITION PURPOSE : The critical care nurse has received specialized training that enables him or her to manage and monitor those patients who are the most seriously ill or injured.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : - Demonstrates competency in essential functions outlined in the Registered Nurse job description.
- Respect the rights of the patient or his or her designated surrogate to make independent health care decisions, even when he or she disagrees with those decisions.
- Act as an intermediary in matters concerning the patient, his or her family, and other staff involved.
- Ability to advocate for critically ill patients when they are unable to speak for themselves by involving the family/loved ones in decision making with the patient physician.
- Ability to utilize solid critical thinking skills in decision making.
- Ability to accurately monitor the critical patients for changes in status and indications of such conditions (ie: sepsis, cardiac rhythm changes, medication reaction, etc.) and to intervene appropriately.
- Ability to effectively communicate objective/pertinent information with physician (s)
- Accurately monitor and document patient care in the patient record.
- Ability to safely manage multiple IV fluids to reach desired goal(s).
- Ability to recognize life-saving situations and appropriately respond by application of ACLS skills, protocols and standards of care under extreme pressure.
- Accurately assess patients??? pain levels and sedation requirements.
- Ability to perform a range of tasks including but not limited to:
- Diagnostic testing,
- Manager multiple IV medications to reach desired outcome.
- Administer moderate sedation
- Manage ventilator patients
- Manage IABP (intra-aortic balloon pumps)
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS: - Current Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- Minimal entry level is Associate Degree or Diploma, preferred Bachelor of Nursing degree.
- Participate and complete CCU specific orientation program.
- Must have ACLS within one year of employment
- Must complete a cardiac rhythm class successfully within six-nine (6-9) months of hire.
- Within 3 years of hire, the employee must obtain a board certification from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses by successfully passing one of the tests listed below. The employee is responsible to maintain the certification once attained.
