UPMC is excited to invite you to apply for the position of Specimen Processor! This full-time role offers a rotating schedule between 1st and 2nd shifts, Monday through Friday, with working every other Saturday and two holidays per year. In this position, you will work closely with and support the technical staff, providing you with a comprehensive and well-rounded experience in laboratory operations. We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team and receive a robust Totals Reward package!!
Responsibilities:

Convey courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all work situations, ensuring a professional and supportive environment for colleagues and clients.

Show initiative by offering assistance to team members, contributing to the efficient completion of departmental tasks, and enhancing team collaboration.

Oversee pneumatic tube and courier deliveries, ensuring specimens are processed timely to maintain workflow efficiency and meet deadlines.

Investigate and resolve specimen-related issues, including mistakes in requests or specimen problems, and escalate issues when necessary to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Properly separate specimens by centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, and store samples at the correct temperature as per departmental guidelines to ensure sample integrity.

Determine and enter the specimen receive time into the laboratory information system (LIS), ensuring precise record-keeping for traceability.

Adhere to health and safety regulations, handling biohazardous materials and sharps safely to prevent exposure and maintain a safe work environment.

Verify patient specimens, ensuring they match requisitions, and participate in training new specimen processors, sharing knowledge of procedures and policies.
Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
Good oral and written communication skills
Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment preferred, including knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems
Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person
Preferred:
Three to six months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center
