Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized FP & A Accountant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of financial management principles and regulatory compliance. This role will support the financial operations of the company and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting in alignment with both internal policies and external regulations.


Essential Functions


Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain accurate financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Assist in managing budgets for government contracts, grants, and projects, ensuring adherence to funding requirements.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger detail functions.


Governmental Compliance

  • Ensure financial activities comply with government regulations, including reporting requirements for grants and contracts.
  • Prepare and submit invoices and reports to funding agencies in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations, particularly relating to governmental accounting standards.


Audits & Reconciliation

  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.


Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support budget development and financial forecasting for projects involving governmental funding.
  • Provide actionable insights through financial analysis to improve efficiency and reduce costs.


Collaboration & Process Improvemen t

  • Work closely with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.


Competencies, Experience, and Education


Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience; government or grant accounting experience is preferred.
  • CPA, CGFM, or other relevant certification is a plus.

Desired

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards (GASB).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar systems).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.


Work Environment


The controller will work in an office environment. Some flexible remote work is possible. Occasional work in a manufacturing environment will be required.


Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Use of mouse/computer keyboard.
  • May have to bend at knees for filing.
  • May have to do light lifting.
  • Occasional movement through a manufacturing environment.

Travel


Occasional travel, primarily between company locations.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work


This is a full-time position; typical workdays are Monday through Friday. Estes Energetics maintains a flexible schedule around core work hours of 9am to 4pm and a full-time schedule is designed around a 40-hour week. Occasional overtime may be required during month-end close, proposal due dates, and other busy periods.
