Role and Responsibilities
This is an intermediate level position involving technician work in highway materials testing facility.General activities may include: Operation of laboratory equipment to evaluate materials properties, performing testing procedures, entering test data into the appropriate reporting software program or database, and preparing test reports. Ensures the timely calibration and maintenance of the testing equipment. Ensures all work activities are properly and timely planned, documented, and filed. This position will be working in the Structural Materials Section, Chemistry Laboratory.Specific duties include:
- Analyze samples following ASTM/AASHTO/Florida Test Methods. Evaluate results and determine compliance with FDOT Specifications.
- Contact District personnel regarding submitted samples.
- Perform wet chemistry testing for cementitious materials, such as loss on ignition and insoluble residue of cementitious materials.
- Test limerock for determination of carbonates for acceptance of base materials.
- Test water for concrete samples to ensure compliance with FDOT specifications.
- Evaluate products for approved product list (APL) or random samples by testing and/or analyzing independent laboratory data submitted by manufacturers.
- Test highway construction or traffic control materials.
- Revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Calibration and Verification Procedures.
- Use of computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.) to record data, enter and validate test results in MAC database in timely manner.
- Maintain a safe working environment. Prepare and handle hazardous materials (ex. ammonium nitrate solutions, ammonium hydroxide and acid dilutions) associated with the test.
- Assist with Chemical Inventory and laboratory housekeeping.
- Responsible for performing calibrations and verifications of assigned equipment on schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00AM- 4:30 PM
