Unit Highlights Nurses on Unit 5E (Medical Oncology) care for many medical oncology diagnoses while upholding the Commission on Cancer Standards. We welcome patients from a variety of medical and surgical specialties. This 21-bed unit is a great place to become an expert generalist, Certified Chemo nurse and an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) as well as a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN). The staff and nurses on 5E are highly skilled, motivated, and committed to excellence. We strive to provide safe, quality care by maintaining a patient-centered approach and leveraging multi-disciplinary collaboration. The cytoreductive surgery was developed at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The 5E Nurses also provide nationally certified care to our bariatric surgical patient population. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.
