Description The IT Specialist performs intermediate technical work including computer builds, setting up user workstations, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and repairing Software, computers, and peripherals; does related work as required. Serves as point of contact for IT support requests from users.
An employee in this class provides information technology application user support to the organization. This employee will provide technical work in support of workstations, operating systems, Office 365 applications, network and phone system. Work will include supporting the configuration, installation, maintenance and ongoing support of computers, operating systems and Town websites. The IT Specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting and coordinating issue resolution; tracking and updating tickets; developing and updating documentation such as IT standard operating procedures (SOP'S) as well as performance monitoring and testing. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manager. The IT Specialist provides first level support to Town staff and ensures that computers, printers, network systems, servers, email systems, phones, and backups are properly maintained.
Essential Duties and Tasks • Provide over the phone, in person, and remote IT support to all users including police department.
• Build, configure and image new computers.
• Provision and deprovision user accounts in Active Directory and in office 365.
• Perform hardware installation, repairs, maintenance, software installations and upgrades as required.
• Maintain an inventory of IT assets and technical supplies.
• Helps with troubleshooting of projection and audio-visual equipment.
• Helps with video recording and livestreaming of board meetings.
• Assist with identification and resolution of technical issues related to network interruptions
• Assist in creating and implementing training materials pertaining to computer troubleshooting and usage.
• Monitor and manage adds, moves, changes, and removes in active directory and 0365.
• Escalate complex problems to higher levels of support as necessary to ensure timely resolution
• Coordinate vendor repair services for both onsite and offsite work ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
• Makes recommendations to the IT Manager concerning all hardware and software needs.
• Assist IT Manager on special projects when needed.
• Responds to and assists with night and weekend emergency calls when necessary.
• May be required to work after hours and on weekends, as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of IT networking, troubleshooting, ticketing, documentation, customer support procedures, standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work.
• Knowledge of Active Directory, VMware, 0365, Admin Portal.
• Knowledge of law enforcement computer troubleshooting.
• Skilled in assessing and evaluating technology performance and quality.
• Skilled in responding to advanced technology support calls and issues.
• Skilled in providing attention to detail, proofreading and error correction.
• Ability to use modern office technology and specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
• Ability to perform basic research, compile and assemble data, maintain and update documentation.
• Ability to organize tasks, meet deadlines and prioritize competing demands.
• Ability to use communication and interpersonal skills to interact with co-workers, supervisors, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information.
• Ability to use independent judgment, discretion, and due diligence in the performance of job duties and responsibilities as well as sound interpretation of technical manuals and procedures.
Desirable Education and Experience Associate's degree in information technology, computer science, or a directly related field and two years of related technology support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to other requirements set forth in applicable laws or regulations.
Special Requirements
Must successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check and IT security awareness Training to be able to work on and access law enforcement computers upon hire.
Valid North Carolina driver's license.
