YOUR ROLE
As Head, Litigation Prevention and Management you will lead and manage the resolution of insured and uninsured litigation, investigations, and other disputes. You will set standard litigation policy, processes, and procedures for tracking and reporting on litigation trends, metrics, and KPIs. You will advise on corrective action and provide counsel to senior management to mitigate overall legal risks to the company relative to significant litigation, investigations, and disputes. This role will report to NORTAM Legal, SVP of Legal and Risk. Lead and manage small team including Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment and litigation paralegal.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
- Lead and manage all insured and uninsured litigation, investigations, and disputes.
- Responsible for directly managing company’s most significant litigation, investigations, and disputes, including securing relevant settlement authority from senior management or approving settlements of claims and litigation within your established authority.
- Design and implements policies, procedures, and processes in support of overall strategy to help prevent litigation and mitigate its risks and costs.
- Manage outside counsel relationships.
- Responsible for global litigation oversight and reporting, including regular reports to senior management and the Chief Legal Officer (in Marseille) regarding material litigation and claims affecting the company globally.
- Mentor, guide, and manage legal staff.
- Responsible for litigation reporting to (and quarterly and annual discussions with) auditors on key litigation matters and risks, and to other external stakeholders as required (customers, governmental agencies, vendors, media and press inquiries, etc.).
- Responsible for developing, coordinating, and providing core training on litigation risks and awareness to the business and other functions. Collaborates with other departments to prevent, identify, investigate, and resolve litigation and investigation issues.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Education and Experience:
- Law degree and bar admission in Texas
- Minimum eight (8) years of litigation prevention and management experience at a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.
Skills:
- Ability to work on multiple issues and set appropriate priorities with clients and delivery results efficiently.
- Provide ability to provide entrepreneurial, pragmatic, business-oriented advice with a dedication to superior customer service.
- Highly organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and diligent.
- Proven success working effectively across business units and internal functions to efficiently resolve complex business and risk management issues.
- Familiarity working across the globe, working with multiple time zones and cultures.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
- Comfortable collaborating with senior executives.
- Concise, precise, clear and professional communication skills (both oral and written).
- Eager to learn more about logistics and supply chain topics.
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Excellent attention to details.
- Team player.
Preferred:
- Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of general commercial and/or insurance defense litigation experience at a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.
- Previous experience in logistics or supply chain industry; while not required, experience in transportation or trucking litigation.
- Excellent reporting skills and good ability to synthetize complex problems.
- Animated by a strong curiosity toward business/ strategic topics.
