Job Summary
The OB Fetal Monitoring Safety RN work in conjuction with the bedside team to provide additional observation of fetal tracings and early identification and escalation of concerning tracings coupled with hemodynamic and laboratory findings of the obstetric patient.
Job Responsibilities
1. Reviews the dashboard for alerts for abnormal vital signs (VS) that meet maternal early warning parameters and fetal heart rate (FHR) tracings.
2. Analyzes and accurately interprets FHR tracings with category II and III alerts and identifies specific parameters that require further intervention. Interprets baseline FHR, FHR variability and decelerations. Trends duration that FHR pattern in the alert state.
3. Review nursing documentation to confirm that RN is proceeding with appropriate intervention or notifies the RN that the FHR tracing requires further bedside evaluation, intervention, and/or provider notification.
4. Identifies maternal vital signs that fall within the maternal early warning parameters along with trends and duration. Review nursing documentation to confirm that RN is proceeding with appropriate intervention or notifies the RN that maternal VS require further bedside evaluation, intervention, rapid response team notification, and/or provider notification.
5. Promptly engages hospital chain of command in response to a critical patient condition that warrants an immediate clinician response.
6. Monitors laboratory and diagnostic findings and notifies primary RN and/or providers of results that require additional consultation and/or intervention
7. All other duties as assigned
Education
Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Currently eligible to work in the state of Georgia
Preferred
Experience
- Minimum two years experience as a labor and delivery nurse
Skills/Certs/Licenses
- Completion of AWHONN advanced fetal monitoring course every 2 years and intermediate fetal monitoring alternating every 2 years
- Must hold certification through NCC as RNC-EFM or obtain within 6 months of hire
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
