Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO), you will be responsible for transporting military goods safely and efficiently cross country. This position requires extensive over-the-road experience, exceptional driving skills, and the ability to operate manual transmissions. The ideal candidate will possess a clean driving record and will be able to pass an in-depth background check to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibility of this role involves a 2-person drive team with continuous driving across the country, making 4-8 stops per trip. Our drivers typically switch driving duties every 300 miles or 6 hours, ensuring safe and efficient transport. While one driver operates the vehicle, the other rests. All trips are pre-scheduled by our Transportation Office and often range between 10-14 days in duration. Trips typically commence on Mondays at 0300. Please note -- the nature of our work requires flexibility, as we occasionally have late after-hour deliveries and pickups, as our customer operates at all hours.

  • Secure loads using block and brace techniques to prevent shifting during transit
  • Maintain open communication with dispatchers and customer to coordinate delivery/pickup time and address any issues
  • Effectively manage time to meet delivery deadlines while prioritizing safety and efficiency
  • Utilize navigation skills to plan routes and navigate unfamiliar areas
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure safe operation; call out solutions or maintenance requirements to dispatch
  • Demonstrate adaptability in responding to changing road conditions, weather patterns, and unforeseen circumstances
  • Utilize effective communication skills, including proficiency in the Defense Travel System (DTS) and email correspondence, to coordinate travel arrangements

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years over-the-road driving experience
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and HAZMAT endorsement
  • Clean driving record with no history of major violations or accidents
  • Willingness to occasionally travel by commercial airlines as needed to catch a load
  • Proficiency in operating on a manual transmission
