Job Title : CVICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary :
A CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to critically ill patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries, including open-heart surgery, coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacements, and other cardiac-related procedures. CVICU RNs play a critical role in monitoring and managing patients' cardiovascular status, providing advanced nursing care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for patients with complex cardiac conditions.
Key Responsibilities :
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients recovering from cardiac surgical procedures, including post-operative care.
  • Monitor and manage patients' hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and vital signs using advanced monitoring equipment.
  • Administer medications, including vasoactive medications, inotropes, and sedatives, to maintain hemodynamic stability.
  • Provide post-surgical care, including wound care, chest tube management, and monitoring for complications such as arrhythmias, heart failure, or infections.
  • Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, medications, and discharge planning.
  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations, initiating interventions such as resuscitation or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
  • Manage mechanical cardiac support devices, such as intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
  • Document patient care, treatments, and progress accurately, ensuring compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, staff development, and educational activities related to critical care and cardiac care.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the critical post-operative phase, addressing questions and concerns.
Qualifications :
  • Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure :
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification :
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
    • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Cardiac Surgery certification preferred.
  • Experience : Prior experience in intensive care, cardiac care, or CVICU
