Job Title: Director of Safety and Security
Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Safety and Security to oversee and manage all aspects of safety and security across our organization. The ideal candidate will develop and implement comprehensive policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees, clients, and visitors. This role requires a proactive leader with strong problem-solving skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a proven track record in safety and security management.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Compliance:
- Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to ensure strict adherence to compliance protocols.
- Build and maintain all Sweetie Boy Truck Books and truck files.
- Audit and process scale tickets while holding drivers accountable for misuse.
- Perform daily checks on trucks entering the shop to verify truck book compliance and DOT requirements.
- Promote and reinforce a culture of safety with initiatives like #putthephonedown and #checkyourtirepressure among shop staff and drivers.
Auto Pilot Safety:
- Monitor Mentor app scores daily, providing coaching and administering accountability documentation as per the “Mentor Discipline Parameters Policy.”
- Conduct monthly safety meetings with Auto Pilots at each hub.
- Hold weekly safety meetings with SMEs (Hub Managers) to review statistics and data.
- Collaborate with Dispatchers and Hub Managers to manage accountability documentation, ensuring proper filing and driver acknowledgment.
- Oversee damage claims: investigate incidents, administer driver accountability documentation, and ensure complete documentation for each case.
- Conduct bi-weekly safety meetings with hub teams, ensuring attendance.
- Host weekly safety stand-ups with Hub Managers, involving the Director of Operations.
- Enforce safety initiatives like #checkyourtirepressure and #PUTYOURPHONEDOWN.
- Create and distribute a monthly safety shop newsletter by the 5th of each month.
- Develop and implement a loss prevention policy, including:
- Defined opening and closing procedures for hubs.
- Full access to hub security systems and cameras.
- Updated weekly emergency contact lists.
- Manage all incidents, accidents, and workplace injuries with root cause analyses.
- Handle property and equipment damage claims, ensuring thorough investigation and resolution.
CDL Safety:
- Conduct monthly mandatory safety meetings with the fleet and operations support staff, including guest speakers and company updates.
- Manage all cargo damage claims, becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on car hauling with support from experienced car haulers.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and workplace injuries with root cause analyses, seeking multiple estimates and negotiating costs.
- Review weekly scorecards with CDL drivers, addressing negative trends.
- Lead safety interventions and ensure follow-through on awards, certifications, and point systems.
- Recognize employees who embody the Sweetie Boy culture.
- Liaise with insurance agencies, participating in monthly meetings and annual renewals while analyzing loss runs.
- Enforce strict policies on Hours of Service (HOS) and safety violations, using data-driven insights.
- Ensure drivers comply with safety protocols, including wearing vests during loading/unloading and using the Fleetio telematics app for truck issues.
- Confirm pre- and post-trip inspections are conducted thoroughly and issues are reported accurately.
- Organize monthly training sessions with the Shop and CDL Ops teams on SMS/CVSA trends and DOT priorities.
- Travel to hubs monthly or quarterly to ensure compliance and reinforce safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Proven and verifiable track record of success in safety, networking, customer service, and achieving goals.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate team members, enforce corrective actions, and ensure consistent follow-up and follow-through.
- Ability to multitask and act decisively during emergencies without compromising team safety.
- Extensive knowledge of auditing driver logs, FMCSA rules and regulations, DOT rules and regulations, and maintaining a positive CSA score.
- Skilled in interpreting and analyzing MVRs and driver PSPs.
- Experience in maintaining accurate records for truck and trailer maintenance, driver files, medical card reviews, drug testing, and background checks.
- Familiarity with filing systems such as WebCat, IFTA, HUT, HHT2290, and other state taxes.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in security technology and systems, such as CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
Work Environment: This position may require occasional travel and the ability to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours. The Director of Safety and Security must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and adapting to evolving safety and security needs.
