What is the project?
The Ontario Line (“OL”) is a fully integrated, stand-alone, rapid transit system that connects Ontario Science Centre to the Exhibition and Ontario Place grounds. The Northern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (“NC”) project consists of approximately 7 kms of underground subway and elevated guideway, with stations along the segment providing connections to surface bus and streetcar routes. The NC project has been divided into two main progressive design-build contracts: (1) the Elevated Guideways and Stations Contract (“EGS”) and the Pape Tunnel and Underground Station Contract (“PTUS”), with supporting Early Works.
What is the Opportunity
As a Quality Control Coordinator, your role is to understand the Construction Quality Management Plan and ensure that the quality management system is established, implemented and properly
maintained in accordance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications. You will lead efforts to implement a robust quality management process, conduct inspections and foster a culture of quality excellence and continuous improvement throughout the project.
Reporting to the CQCM, the Quality Control Coordinator will act as a representative of Quality throughout the project and be responsible for contributing to the ongoing delivery of the project’s Quality Management Plans through participation in a variety of Quality initiatives. As a Quality Control Staff will be directly involved in the process of maintaining quality during the execution of the construction work and facilitate handovers of completed work to all stakeholders. Responsible to assist the project field staff & subcontractors to ensure compliance with the design documentation, client, industry and internal process and quality requirements based on ITPs.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for all the constructions activities.
- Ensure that all quality records associated with the implementation of the quality management system and ITPs are kept organized and filed in the construction quality record management system.
- Ensure that an Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) has been developed prior to the start of any construction activity.
- Conduct quality inspections on incoming materials, delivered equipment and construction activities as detailed in the relevant ITPs and ensure all completed work is in conformance with the project requirements.
- Review as received all the material testing reports by the external lab or subcontractors and major suppliers.
- Performing on and off-site quality control inspections and testing to ensure conformance to the project specifications as set out in the ITPs.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with the project team, subcontractors, consultants, and owner representatives. Execute inspections with trade partners to oversee checklist and accuracy before and after inspection.
- Review applicable ITPs, coordinate with construction schedule, and prepare ITP Two weeks look ahead (W/H Points).
- Initiate the NCR process when materials, work or processes do not meet the requirements and specifications and inform the CQCM or Construction Quality Manager (CQM) immediately.
- Continuously monitoring the progress and quality of construction work to identify and address potential issues promptly.
- Keeping detailed records of inspections, including dates, findings, and corrective actions taken.
- Documenting any deviations from project specifications or quality standards and report them to the CQCM.
- Checking the certifications and qualifications of workers and subcontractors to ensure they meet project requirements.
- Overseeing testing of materials and structures, such as concrete strength tests, soil compaction tests, and other relevant tests.
- Work with the CA construction compliance team to conduct joint inspections and communicate issues raised to the Quality Control Manager and assist in the resolution of issues as they arise.
- Maintain a log of all measuring and testing equipment, which shall include, at a minimum, equipment identification numbers, equipment descriptions, dates of last calibration, and dates of next scheduled calibration.
- Prepare inspection reports as needed.
