The Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver is seeking a Director, Vancouver Jewish Community Foundation to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your skills to a mission-driven organization that strengthens the Jewish community locally, nationally, and globally.


Position Summary :

The Director of the Jewish Community Foundation is an experienced professional with a deep understanding of the Jewish community and a commitment to strengthening its future. Working in partnership with the Chief Development Officer, the Director will play a key role in advancing the Foundation’s growth and enhancing its reputation as the centre for philanthropy and legacy giving in the Vancouver Jewish community. They will engage with community members across diverse interests and generations to foster meaningful relationships and expand the Foundation’s impact.


This role is responsible for developing and overseeing Foundation-related policies, procedures, and operations, as well as managing financial and investment activities. The Director will focus on cultivating donor relationships, supporting gift development, and managing volunteer and committee activities. They will work closely with donors and build strong partnerships with Federation staff to help achieve the Foundation’s strategic objectives.


Key Responsibilities :

Donor Development and Relations:

• Demonstrate excellence in engaging and building trust with major donors, fund holders, and their families.

• Develop and implement strategies, in partnership with the Chief Development Officer, to attract new donors, retain existing ones, and expand their philanthropic involvement through personalized legacy planning.

• Execute an effective donor recognition and retention plan to foster long-term relationships.

• Advise and assist donors with their philanthropy, including facilitating timely distributions and managing flow-through fund administration.


Financial Accountability and Oversight:

• Manage day-to-day financial and operational activities, including grant-making, budgeting, and allocation of resources.

• Partner with the Director of Finance and relevant committee chairs, to oversee financial activities, asset performance, and timely reporting.

• Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop and monitor the Foundation’s operating budget.

• Provide responsive support to individual donors, synagogues, and agencies regarding fund performance.

• Ensure timely and transparent reporting and communications regarding Foundation finances and revenue generation.


Volunteer Management and Engagement:

• Work in Partnership with the Foundation Governors to define, communicate, and sustain the Foundation’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

• Report regularly to the Foundation Governors on progress, performance, and opportunities for growth.

• Provide staff support for Foundation committees, including Grant Distribution, Fund Development, and Governance and Nominations.

• Cultivate, recruit, and engage volunteer leaders to strengthen the Foundation Governors’ capacity and ensure a pipeline of future leadership.


Management and Operations:

• Oversee all Foundation operations, promoting a culture of inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.

• Develop and implement strategic plans and operational goals, in partnership with the Chief Development Officer, to advance the Foundation’s mission.

• Recruit, develop, and evaluate professional staff to support the Foundation’s growth and success.


Community Relations:

• Represent the Jewish Community Foundation positively and professionally, engaging with local, national, and international Jewish and secular organizations where appropriate.

• Serve as a spokesperson for the Foundation in partnership with the Chair of the Foundation Governors.

• Build cooperative working relationships with Federation staff, agency executives, and synagogue leadership to address community challenges and advance shared goals.

• Work to increase the Foundation’s visibility and awareness across the Jewish and general communities.


Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in philanthropy, non-profit management, or a related field, including significant experience in donor development and relationship management.

• Proven success in working with major donors, foundations, and legacy planning, ideally within the Jewish community or a similar non-profit environment.

• Strong understanding of the Jewish community, its values, and its institutions.

• Experience managing financial oversight, including budgeting, grant-making, and financial reporting.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, community leaders, and stakeholders.

• High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM or fundraising software.

• A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a focus on building partnerships and achieving common goals.
