POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Following discharge, the Transporter transports patients via wheelchair to the designated pick-up area following procedures. In addition to transporting patients, the Transporter-Floater assists other staff members assisting with front desk activities, patient confirmation calls, and other duties as directed.
POSITION DUTIES:
The position requires the following primary duties to be successful:
1) Philosophy:

3) Position Duties:
a) Interacts professionally with physicians, patients, families and others.
b) Transports patients via wheelchair from the PACU to the designated post-procedure pick-up location.
c) Obtains licensed nurse when family requests communication regarding patient's condition beyond the scope of the Administrator or other non-clinical staff.
d) Serves as a back-up to the Lead Patient Liaison when needed. Duties may include patient check-in, scanning documents to the patient's chart, and/or performing patient confirmation calls at least 48 hours in advanced of scheduled procedures.
e) Works with referring providers and their staff to maintain the surgery schedule.
f) Greets patients and family members in a friendly and hospitable manner.
g) Arranges transportation patients when transportation assistance is required.
h) Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers for the patient's benefit.
i) Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Organization and management of staff member's activities reflect due consideration for the needs of the facility and staff.
j) Completes other duties, as assigned.
4) Position Expectations:
a) Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
b) Completes annual education requirements, as required by the facility.
c) Always maintains patient confidentiality.
d) Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
e) Wears identification while on duty and utilizes time-clock correctly.
f) Attends in-services as required by the facility.
g) Attends quarterly staff meetings. If staff meetings occur during a period of approved absence (ie PTO) follow-up with management on items that were covered.
h) Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
i) Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.

Competency of each metric is measure on the following scale:

Competencies are evaluated on a quarterly basis for the employees file.
a) Interacts professionally with patient and family.
b) Transports patients from the PACU to the designated pick-up area in a courteous, pleasant and respectful manner.
c) Works with other staff to prepare charts for the following day and make patient confirmation phone calls at least 48 hours in advance of a scheduled procedure.
d) Uses problem solving skills to address patient stated barriers to a scheduled appointment that will result in rescheduling.
6) Position Requirements:
a) High school graduate or equivalent required.
b) Certified Medical Assistant is preferred, but not required.
c) Bi-lingual, while not required, is preferred.
d) Understanding of procedures performed at Summit Surgery Center of Buckhead, LLC.
e) A minimum of one-year experience working in a medical office or other healthcare setting.
f) Computer knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and internet usage.
g) Familiar with office equipment such as printers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers.
h) Excellent customer service skills.
i) The ability to remain calm under pressure.
