Job Description

Our client, a Catholic educational organization in Racine, WI, is seeking a mission-driven and experienced Controller to manage the financial functions and operations of the organization. This hands-on role oversees accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Controller contributes to the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring financial integrity and sustainability.


Qualifications/Expectations:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; CPA or CMA strongly preferred; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of senior-level accounting experience, with 5+ years in management
  • Strong analytical abilities, with experience in cash flow forecasting, financial planning, and financial modeling
  • Familiarity with school choice programs and school accounting practices preferred
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Public or nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred; practicing Catholic strongly preferred


Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and Compliance

  • Oversee accounting systems, financial reporting, and internal controls to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and audit standards
  • Manage annual audits, including Wisconsin School Choice program compliance
  • Develop and implement financial policies and evaluate relevant accounting standards

Budget and Financial Reporting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including cash flow, income, and expense projections
  • Prepare and present financial reports and dashboards to the President, Board, and Finance Committee
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for operational efficiencies

Team Leadership

  • Supervise two direct reports (Staff Accountant, Accounting Analyst), ensuring accurate and consistent financial data management
  • Provide training and oversight for budget managers and accounting staff

Strategic Contributions

  • Collaborate with senior management and admissions teams to set enrollment and tuition goals
  • Support long-term financial planning and create multi-year financial projections


Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in financial software and reporting tools
  • Experience with grant management and foundation funding preferred
  • Banking experience, including loans and deposits, is a plus
