A Supply Chain Analyst focused on slotting is responsible for implementation and optimization of warehouse slotting strategies, which involves strategically placing inventory items within a warehouse to maximize picking efficiency and minimize movement time, by analyzing data, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing projects to ensure optimal warehouse operations.
Gathering and analyzing data on product velocity, dimensions, weight, and pick frequency to identify ideal slotting locations.
- Slotting optimization model development:
Creating and maintaining slotting models using warehouse management systems (EWM) to determine the most efficient placement for each SKU.
- Project planning and execution:
Implementing slotting changes, including coordinating with warehouse staff, scheduling updates, and managing transition periods.
- Stakeholder collaboration:
Working with cross-functional teams like operations, inventory management, and supply chain to ensure alignment on slotting strategies.
Tracking key metrics like pick time, travel distance, and inventory accuracy to assess the effectiveness of slotting changes.
Identifying areas for further optimization and implementing adjustments to slotting strategies based on ongoing data analysis.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Strong analytical skills:
Ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable insights for slotting adjustments.
- Warehouse operations knowledge:
Understanding of warehouse processes, pick and pack procedures, and inventory management.
- Project management skills:
Proven ability to plan, execute, and monitor projects within timelines and budget constraints.
Expertise in warehouse management systems (EWM) and data analysis tools. SQL skills preferred.
Effective communication with warehouse staff, stakeholders, and leadership to ensure clear understanding of slotting changes.
Job Summary
Responsible for using a variety of methods and tools to contribute to the implementation and control of new or updated supply planning process, execution, and reporting systems. Provide timely, consistent, relevant, and actionable data analyses in support of key supply chain initiatives. Support multiple short and long-term projects.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
- Performs data management through mining and analysis while executing day-to-day processes related to area of responsibility.
- Executes “day-to-day” inventory analytics with respect to fulfillment, replenishment, inventory on hand, transfer activity, aged inventory reduction, forecasting, and forecast accuracy.
- Collaborates in the design and development of metrics, dashboards and reports for areas that measure performance and drive efficiencies and cost savings opportunities.
- Validates, and publishes reporting to drive cross-functional business insights.
- Provides support and tool or subject matter expertise to develop additional databases / reports. Maintains and identifies improvement opportunities of various business tools and solutions.
- Documents business requirements, functional and system design, processes, and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties and ad-hoc tasks as assigned.
Nature and Scope
- Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
- Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.
- May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Education and Experience
- Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
