Position: Field Safety Engineer (Two Positions)

Salary: $75,000 - $80,000

Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel 80% of the time. (Travel and Lodging Covered)

  • One position will require 3-6 months in AZ and then onto NV for another 6 months
  • One will require travel to Berkeley, Woodland, West Sacramento, Elk Grove

Overview:

The Field Safety Engineer is responsible for implementing EHS safety policies and procedures in concert with the EHS Manager. This autonomous role involves providing project teams with leading indicator observations, including acknowledgment of favorable behaviors and identification of hazards on project sites. The Field Safety Engineer will develop strategies to minimize risk and communicate them effectively with project teams and subcontractors. This position facilitates continuous improvement in safety culture, performance, policies, and practices by ensuring the adoption of best practices, innovation in processes, and incorporation of ideas from other industries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exercise professionalism and maintain confidentiality when working with staff, projects, and proprietary information.
  • Assist the EHS Manager in developing and implementing safety objectives, strategies, and policies to foster a leading safety culture.
  • Observe and analyze jobsites and project plans to anticipate problems and implement approved solutions.
  • Lead and manage the development of the SSSP and other key project programs.
  • Conduct training for all levels of management, field staff, and project teams as needed.
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to build a strong safety culture.
  • Advise and educate field superintendents and project managers on safety solutions.
  • Plan and execute safety strategies based on leading indicators.
  • Provide safety performance evaluations and analyze data for preventive measures.
  • Manage hazard assessment activities and conduct safety inspections.
  • Oversee incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements and company standards.

Key Interfaces:

  • Internal: Construction/Field teams, EHS Department, Human Resources
  • External: Subcontractor teams, OSHA, consultants, and other third-party agencies

Key Metrics and Deliverables:

  • Maintain and monitor safety KPIs, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Document engagement with leadership and adhere to reporting schedules.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards and safety program development.
  • Exceptional observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership abilities with a focus on coaching and engagement.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to construction jobsite environments with potential hazards.
  • Routine travel up to 80%, including local and overnight travel.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Routine exposure to varying heights and environmental conditions.

Experience and Education:

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • 1-5 years of experience in safety and compliance within construction or manufacturing environments.
  • OSHA 10 & 30 certifications preferred.
