Assistant Director of Care (ADOC)
Qualifications
University prepared RN (Bachelor of Science, Nursing)
Current license with the College of Nurses of Manitoba
Technical Competencies
Working knowledge of: the long term care industry, the accreditation process, Human Resources and Labour Relations, Sales & Marketing and Business/Finance principles, professional practice standards, applicable contractual & legislative requirements including governmental LTC standards and provincial Health & Safety, Workers Compensation, and Employment Standards legislation, Quality and Project Management principles, ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, computer skills, facilitation skills, recording and reporting skills.
Experience
3 years experience in long term care/gerontology
Previous managerial experience, preferably in a long term care setting
The ADOC works under the supervision of the DOC and may perform work in any or all of the following areas as assigned.

Examples
Coordination of resident care and services
Develop and monitor the delivery of resident care services.
Ensure the implementation and evaluation of systems to meet the care needs of our residents.
Awareness and application of best practices.
Establish positive relationships with residents and families and effectively manages expectations.
Critical thinking skills in analysis of clinical indicators.
Human resources
Staff development
Deployment of staffing
Recruitment, selection, screening, hiring, performance management
Leadership mentoring and coaching
Effectively manages the collective agreement to foster employee relations
Financial management
Reconciling nursing hours to available funding
Managing occupancy and client mix
Responsible for departmental budget process and management of associated costs e.g.: supplies, attendance management
Quality improvement and risk management
Infection Control
Occupational Health and Safety
Ensures that professional standards are maintained with respective scope of practice
Participates in facility strategic planning to align the nursing department in response to internal and external environmental challenges
Ensures that policies and procedures are aligned with facility culture, vision, mission and values
Facilitate a process to achieve desired outcomes, including relevant committees
Interprets clinical data for analysis
Government and community relations
Partnering with stakeholders, like colleges, universities, agencies, and professional associations.
Being visible in the community through participation in relevant committees and professional associations.
Ensures positive relations with government, and regulatory bodies by complying with standards and guidelines.
Participates in industry benchmarking
Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities
Provide direction in accordance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy to:
Workers,
Volunteers,
Contractors.
Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of the worker.
Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy.
Participate in all required occupational health and safety training.
Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor.
Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.
MDS Accountabilities
Provides leadership and support on RAI coding/auditing and data management
Makes recommendations to improve privacy and confidentiality of health information
Coordinates the completion of MDS assessment on all residents within established timelines.
Key contact for all staff on MDS and RAI completion

Respects and preserves the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times. Violations of this statement include, but are not limited to:
accessing confidential information that is not within the scope of the individuals duties
misusing, disclosing without proper authorization, or altering confidential information
disclosing to another person the unique username or password for accessing electronic confidential health care information
using another person’s username or password to access information
discussing confidential information in a public area
leaving confidential health care or employee information in public areas
disposing of confidential information inappropriately
