Join us as a Sr. High Voltage Cable Design Engineer to work on groundbreaking high voltage (HV) underground cable and system designs across North America. Key Qualifications:

  1. Proven experience with High Voltage design.
  2. Expertise in comprehensive cable design solutions, including grounding details and bonding schemes.

  5. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

Role Overview: In this role, you’ll assist customers in defining technical specifications and ensure Southwire’s products integrate seamlessly into their applications. You’ll also lead the development of engineering drawings, specifications, and production documentation to meet exacting customer standards. Additionally, you will act as a subject matter expert on the electro-mechanical behavior of HV/EHV cable systems, providing support for in-field applications and installation.

Responsibilities:

  • Cable Design & System Solutions: Design complete HV/EHV cable system solutions for voltage classes 69kV to 500kV, utilizing grounding and bonding techniques and integrating fiber optic components.
  • Customer Engagement & Support: Represent our company as a subject matter expert, leading technical presentations, training seminars, and problem-solving sessions with customers.
  • Process Improvement & Efficiency: Lead specification and proposal development, oversee project/bid requirements, and refine processes for optimal project execution.
  • Production Support: Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure smooth production cycles, including testing, troubleshooting, and final assembly.
  • Research & Development: Lead R&D projects, from budgeting to logistical planning, using “Stage Gate” process.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Train and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and safety.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, plus 10 years of experience (or a combination of education and experience).
  • Comprehensive understanding of underground power transmission engineering and familiarity with associated disciplines.
  • Advanced skills in software tools, including Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of power transmission cable materials, testing processes, and adherence to standards like ICEA, AEIC, IEC, and IEEE.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with an ability to present complex information clearly to both internal and external audiences.
