Psychiatric - Mental Health Physician at NHR summary:

The Behavioral Health Medical Director at U.T. Medical Center leads the inpatient psychiatric consult service, supervising a team of physicians and nurse practitioners to address various psychiatric issues and ensure optimal patient care. This role involves daily collaboration with nurse practitioners, overseeing patient consultations, and ensuring compliance with care plan reviews. The Medical Director contributes to a highly recognized health facility located in a vibrant community with a low cost of living and abundant recreational opportunities.

The Behavioral Health Medical Director oversees the inpatient psychiatric consult service at U.T. Medical Center. The service consists of 3 part-time physicians and 4 full-time nurse practitioners. The Behavioral Health service provides consultation on a variety of psychiatric problems such as suicide attempts/concerns, competency assessments, and inpatient psychiatric commitment decisions. The Behavioral Health service follows patients in the hospital to facilitate care by making recommendations for further psychiatric care both inpatient and outpatient.

The Medical Director acts as the supervising physician for the nurse practitioners. He/she meets daily with the nurse practitioners to review new consults and to answer any questions regarding the care plans of existing patients on the service. The Medical Director is required to review the charting on a minimum of 30% of the nurse practitioner s patient encounters.
