ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify and evaluate patient care needs through ongoing surveillance, regular rounding, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Reference strategic plans to assess the organization’s ability to meet community needs.
- Prioritize patient safety by managing and escalating safety issues as necessary.
- Delegate responsibilities based on staff skills and competencies.
- Participate in hiring and evaluating nursing personnel.
- Lead a Quality Improvement Program focused on tracking, analyzing, and implementing corrective actions.
- Analyze interdisciplinary care needs through a proactive Performance Improvement Program.
- Foster effective teamwork among medical, nursing, and support staff.
- Collaborate with the team to coordinate care across services.
- Support staff development through continuing education initiatives.
- Investigate and address occurrences and complaints in collaboration with the team.
- Attend departmental and hospital-wide meetings, sharing reports as needed.
- Conduct staff meetings, maintaining agendas and attendance records.
- Stay updated on relevant regulatory standards.
- Contribute to the revision of nursing policies and ensure staff education on updates.
- Assist in developing patient and family education programs.
- Engage in the budget review process for the specialty.
- Promote seamless transitions of care through education and effective handoff reporting.
- Cultivate an empowering culture that enhances the patient and family experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below. Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
Preferred Knowledge & Experience:
- A minimum of five years Supervisory experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital Emergency Department setting preferred.
