Title :Senior Accessibility Specialist
Location: Remote (Cannot be PST)
Contract Duration: 12-month Contract with potential for extensions OR FTE conversion
Must-haves:
- 5+ years of professional experience as an Accessibility Specialist
- VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) experience in authoring over 20 VPATs
- WCAG 2.1 A/AA (expert knowledge of this standard, ability to judge if the standards are met, coaching teams on compliant fixes)
- HTML5/ARIA (ability to assess a website markup and design for accessibility)
- Demonstrate experience using testing tools (WAVE, aXe, Microsoft Insights, Color Contrast Analyzer) and with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
- High Character – Longevity in previous roles, go-getter attitude, collaborative mindset
Plusses:
- IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist Certification (IAAP WAS)
- US DHS 508 Trusted Tester Certification
Day-to-Day:
A client of Insight Global is in search of an experienced accessibility specialist to bolster their program, catering to researchers, scientists, and clinicians worldwide. This 1-year contract position offers potential for extension or conversion to full-time employment.
As the Senior Accessibility Specialist, you'll lead product teams in navigating digital accessibility, ensuring adherence to WCAG and other relevant standards. Your role involves coaching in design, development, and testing, with a focus on integrating accessibility seamlessly into existing workflows. Reporting to the Team Manager, you'll advocate for accessibility best practices across the organization.
Your responsibilities encompass recommending accessible practices for a diverse range of digital content, including web pages, mobile applications, emails, presentations, multimedia, PDFs, and other commonly used formats, all aimed at achieving WCAG compliance.
Furthermore, you'll play a key role in the design and evaluation of websites to ensure usability for individuals with disabilities. This involves conducting expert technical reviews against WCAG 2.1 standards, as well as facilitating usability testing with individuals who have various disabilities, such as vision impairments, deafness, dexterity or motor impairments, and cognitive or reading disabilities.
