The Back End Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and efficient operation of back end equipment in a can production facility. Key duties include equipment setup, inspection of can specifications, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics, and the ability to operate production equipment safely.
Position Overview:
Ensure that all back end equipment is maintained and operating to produce safe quality cans from end of washer/dryer through the pallet staging area.
Duties And Responsibilities:
- Perform set-up and maintenance and ensure efficient operation of the flangers, beaders, light testers, lacquer spray machines, IBOs, palletizer and strappers.
- Responsible for the maintenance and set up of all back end conveying, which includes all single filers and can transfer apparatus.
- At scheduled intervals, inspect, monitor and document in the computer the following can specifications:
- Flanged can height - Factory finished can height
- Flange width - Flange angle
- Axial load - Panel resistance
- Bead depth - Rolling bead diameter and placement
- Plug diameter - Oven temperature checks
- Perform visual checks of cans to ensure entire process is in compliance and take appropriate measures to correct the process when deficiencies are found.
- Complete required paperwork and documentation such as process check sheets, log books, and maintenance check sheets.
- Perform Equipment Set-up Evaluations (ESE) and make proper adjustments as required.
- Assist in other areas as needed to maintain a smooth flow of cans through the plant.
- Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and follow all safety procedures and work practices.
- Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned
- Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics
- Ability to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to safety operate production forklift
- Basic knowledge of computer systems, gauges, tools and equipment
- Ability to use precision measurement devices (i.e. calipers, micrometers and dial indicators)
