Role Description

We are looking for an editor with sharp reporting instincts, outstanding news judgment, an ability to report and write quickly in a fast-moving atmosphere. This person will lead our news team and have full writing duties. It is important to have a curiosity about the community and its people is vital. Writing duties include general assignment writing, feature writing, and meeting coverage. We care about your interests and will shape beats accordingly to play to your interests and strengths.

We work as a team and the person must have the ability to work productively in a team setting.

Your work will appear in newspapers, websites, and social media. Salary based on experience. We offer health benefits, 401(k) and two weeks vacation. Emporia is on the edge of the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills one hour away from major Kansas cities like Kansas City, Wichita and Topeka.

Qualifications

• News Writing and Journalism skills
• Writing and Editorial skills
• Experience in New Media
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
• Prior experience as a news editor or similar role is a plus
