Job Summary
As a member of the Freedom Space team, you will contribute to the successful execution of the Enterprise Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Solution (EOS), a cutting-edge program to enhance the missile warning capabilities of the U.S. Space Force. EOS integrates advanced satellite systems, ground-based infrastructure, and innovative software solutions to detect and track missile launches globally with unparalleled speed and precision. It builds on the legacy of OPIR technology by integrating modern architectures to provide resilient and real-time missile threat detection in contested environments. The project ensures a robust and interoperable system capable of meeting emerging threats, aligning with the Space Force’s mission to maintain space domain superiority and bolster national security.
As a Cyber Engineer on the EOS program, you will play a vital role in ensuring the cybersecurity and compliance of mission-critical systems supporting the U.S. Space Force's missile warning and defense capabilities. Your primary responsibilities include managing the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, developing and maintaining documentation for Authorization to Operate/Connect (ATO and ATC) packages, and implementing security controls to protect sensitive systems. You will perform vulnerability assessments, mitigate risks, and ensure systems adhere to DoD cybersecurity standards and policies. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security best practices throughout the system lifecycle, providing technical expertise to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the platform. This role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process to ensure systems meet DoD cybersecurity standards
- Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive Authority to Operate (ATO) packages, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)
- Implement, monitor, and validate security controls to safeguard sensitive systems and data
- Perform vulnerability scans, analyze results, and remediate identified risks in collaboration with development and operations teams
- Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to ensure continuous compliance with DoD and Space Force cybersecurity policies
- Provide technical guidance and support for integrating security into system designs, architecture, and software development processes
- Monitor and respond to emerging cyber threats, ensuring that the system is protected against evolving vulnerabilities and attack vectors
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security is embedded throughout the system lifecycle (Shift Left Security)
- Document and report security incidents, findings, and remediation efforts to stakeholders and leadership
- Stay updated on cybersecurity frameworks, compliance standards (e.g., NIST 800-53, DoD STIGs), and emerging security technologies
- Provide subject matter expertise during system reviews, inspections, and audits
- Support training and mentoring of team members on cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5-7+ years of experience in cybersecurity, RMF, and/or ATO processes within government or DoD environments
- Expertise in managing the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and developing Authorization to Operate/Connect (ATO/ATC) packages
- Strong understanding of NIST 800-53 controls, DoD STIGs, and cybersecurity compliance frameworks
- Proficiency with vulnerability scanning tools such as Nessus, ACAS, or Qualys, and experience with patch management processes
- Experience with security assessment tools and techniques, including penetration testing and risk analysis
- Knowledge of system hardening practices and secure configuration management
- Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and incident response tools (e.g., Splunk, Elastic Stack)
- Understanding of cloud platforms and their associated security models
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation of security tasks
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create documentation and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment
