The company prides itself on providing personalized service and maintaining long-term relationships with its clients. They seek motivated individuals looking to develop their careers in a supportive and growth-driven environment, free from corporate bureaucracy. The firm is committed to fostering the success of its clients, company, and community, and it offers opportunities for career development and advancement.

The team consists of high-achieving professionals who live by their core values, ensuring that everyone can grow and succeed together. Essential Job Functions

As a Commercial Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing the underwriting and processing of loan applications, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant with company and regulatory standards. This role is essential for scaling the business, as you will help streamline the workload currently overseen by senior team members. Over time, you will take full ownership of loan evaluation, document verification, and ensuring a seamless pipeline of accurate and well-processed investment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and Verify Loan Documentation: Conduct meticulous reviews of loan applications and associated documentation, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Focus on identifying and resolving discrepancies in contracts, appraisals, and other critical materials.
  • Assess and Vet Complex Commercial Deals: Analyze loan applications and structures, including multi-property and multi-LLC transactions. Verify borrower-provided information and ensure alignment with company guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Coordinate with Brokers and Borrowers: Serve as the main point of contact for brokers, managing communications and ensuring timely submission of required documents. Communicate directly with borrowers to clarify and rectify issues with submitted materials.
  • Manage Loan Closing Processes: Oversee the preparation and coordination of loan closings, including working with attorneys and title companies to finalize accurate legal documentation and funding schedules.
  • Support Legal Documentation and Compliance: Collaborate with attorneys to review and revise legal documents, ensuring they accurately reflect the terms of each deal. Highlight and correct errors in borrower or property details.
  • Utilize and Improve Underwriting Tools: Leverage advanced software systems to manage and verify loan documents efficiently. Propose and implement enhancements to existing tools and processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain a Low-Volume, High-Accuracy Workflow: Focus on processing 2–5 complex commercial loans per month with an emphasis on quality over quantity, ensuring every transaction is meticulously handled.
  • Contribute to Team Growth and Longevity: Work toward seamless integration within the team, emphasizing long-term commitment to the role and the company’s mission. Support knowledge sharing and process documentation to enhance team operations.

Position Qualifications

  • A degree in finance, business, or a related field is advantageous but not required.
  • 6+ years of experience in commercial real estate lending, loan underwriting, or a closely related role.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex commercial loans, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with lending criteria.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage the underwriting process, and maintain accountability for deal accuracy and completion.
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate documents, including operating agreements, appraisals, mortgages, and title policies.
  • Familiarity with loan processing software and systems, enabling efficient management of loan pipelines and verification processes.
  • Ability to professionally coordinate with brokers, attorneys, and internal teams while clearly articulating requirements and addressing concerns.
