Crater Health District, part of the Virginia Department of Health, is looking for passionate individuals to join our team in fostering healthy and resilient communities! As an entry-level Environmental Health trainee, you will have the chance to serve the public while gaining valuable experience in Environmental Health Services.
This position offers **Exceptional Recruitment and Incentive Options** and provides comprehensive training in key areas such as food sanitation, private well inspection, on-site soils evaluation, rabies abatement, communicable disease investigation, and more! You will receive hands-on guidance and supervision as you work to enforce local, state, and federal regulations through inspections and investigations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Completing training in VDH Soils, Food, or Shellfish programs
- Obtaining credentials within 18 months (VDH Standardized Food, DPOR Onsite Soil Evaluator, or NSSP State Standardized Inspector)
- Progressing to the Environmental Health Specialist Senior position upon successful completion of training
A valid State Driver's License is required.

Minimum Qualifications
•Ability to communicate effectively with the public, internal/external partners and staff, proficient in basic computer software.
•Knowledge and/or experience in assigned program areas, working knowledge of biology, chemistry, and/or mathematics
•Ability to access and walkover remote land parcels to read landscape position and topography.
•Ability to provide direction to appropriate leadership in targeted areas, provide services in professional courteous manner, present education programs to adults; uses a customer-service oriented approach to assignments and works effectively as a team member
•Time management skills in order to meet workload demands; Skills in problem solving essential with analyzing information and making recommendations, ability to interpret and apply regulations.
Additional Considerations
•Experience in environmental health, such as experience gained as an Environmental Health Associate
