Our client using the emerging tools of genetic medicine to engineer cures for human diseases. We believe these powerful new approaches can be used to treat, or cure, common diseases that afflict large numbers of patients. To realize this vision, we are building therapeutics that modify and control multiple genes at the DNA, RNA, and protein level in vivo. We have a vibrant, collaborative workplace that supports our team in performing great science while bringing their whole selves to work. We are seeking several highly motivated, creative individuals to join our growing team.
About the Role:
As a Molecular Biology Scientist in the Mol Bio Group at this stealth-mode startup, you will advance our genetic medicine technologies, enabling the discovery and development of new therapeutics. Working with a diverse team of cell biologists, protein and RNA engineers, computational scientists, molecular biologists, and translational biologists, you will:
• Lead and oversee molecular cloning projects from initiation to completion, including troubleshooting and problem resolution of complex libraries and cloning structures.
• Design, optimize, and validate SOPs related to molecular cloning processes.
• Develop and implement high-throughput workflows using liquid handling robots and Integra ViaFlo to enhance flexibility while ensuring consistent throughput and turnaround times.
• Collaborate with CROs to efficiently track and manage components across multiple concurrent projects.
• Provide management and mentorship to junior researchers, fostering their development and guiding their contributions to the team.
• Assist in optimization of AAV screening workflows and the handoff between tissue culture and molecular biology teams.
Requirements:
• A masters or PhD in Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of five years of experience in independent experimental design, focused on bioengineering.
• A creative thinker with a track record of high-quality data generation • An experimentalist ready and able to drive to the full cycle of design/build/test/analyze
• Strong understanding of molecular biology and automation best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency and expertise in molecular cloning including Gibson assembly, ligation, site-directed mutagenesis, and golden-gate assembly.
• Additional experience with complex libraries and cloning processes.
• Experience with high-throughput workflows and laboratory automation including Agilent Bravo and Integra ViaFlo instruments.
• Previous expierence working with AAV screens.
• Ability to design, test, write up, and train fellow lab members on new SOPs and establishing best practices.
• Skilled in managing and analyzing large data sets, with experience in using and improving LIMS, Benchling, or similar tools for managing samples and data from high-throughput experiments.
• Competency in processing and analyzing experimental data.
• Working knowledge of tools such as R, Python, and Jupyter Notebook
