Patient Access Supervisor

Position Objective: The Patient Access Supervisor oversees patient registration at Luminis Health. Responsibilities include guiding employees, ensuring registration accuracy, managing payroll, overseeing training programs, and maintaining adequate staffing to deliver high-quality service for patients and customers. This role reports directly to the Director of Patient Access.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise activities and personnel in assigned registration areas, ensuring compliance with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures for standard work while ensuring adherence to departmental policies.
  • Monitor and audit the accuracy of registration information and enforce proper documentation collection.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with staff and key departments, including Care Management, Patient Financial Services, and Medical Records.
  • Provide hands-on support with registration processes as needed.

Training and Staff Development:

  • Oversee orientation and training for new hires, ensuring completion of competency and orientation checklists.
  • Ensure all new employees are thoroughly trained in their roles.
  • Complete performance evaluations and implement corrective action plans as directed by the Director.
  • Keep staff informed of system changes and compliance issues through meetings and communications.

Operational Oversight:

  • Submit bi-monthly progress reports and follow up on staff performance to address problem areas.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and scheduling, evaluating needs with the Director and preparing payroll for approval.
  • Align daily work efforts to meet annual departmental goals.
  • Communicate significant issues or concerns to superiors and recommend solutions.


Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in a hospital or medical office setting related to registration and/or billing.


Certifications:

  • CHAA certification required within 1 year of hire.
  • CHAM certification preferred or to be obtained within 1 year.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Epic-EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of insurance, medical terminology, and Federal/State regulations.
  • Typing speed of 50 WPM.
  • Basic understanding of LEAN principles.


Working Conditions:

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
