Job Description
Position Description :
  • Reporting to the Director of Speech and Hearing in the Student Support Unit, the Speech Pathologist is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services for students with special communicative needs and disorders in assigned schools.
Scope of Responsibility :
  • Employs reliable assessment procedures, techniques and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis and assessment of student needs and behavior and conveys pertinent information to cooperating personnel.
  • Develops Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student receiving speech therapy.
  • Plans and conducts regular teacher and parent conferences and IEP conferences.
  • Plans, implements and modifies therapy procedures as needed.
  • Employs varied service delivery models as the needs of the student change.
  • Works collaboratively with school personnel, parents and other professional resources when supplementary diagnostics information is needed.
  • Uses additional professional resources when supplementary diagnostic information is needed.
  • Reviews relevant case files, including school and health records.
  • Serves on diagnostic teams established in the district for the purpose of identifying, assessing and recommending placement/or treatment of students with disabilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Speech and Hearing Director.
Skills and Qualifications :
  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders, Speech Language Pathology or the ability to obtain Certificate of Clinical Competency from ASHA.
  • Must be licensed in the State of Louisiana for SLP's
  • Ability to serve in several schools as needed
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as well as school system regulations regarding special education.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Strong oratory skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
Desirable Qualifications :
  • Two years' experience in public school therapy
  • Knowledge of Autism
  • Practice in Autism
  • Coursework in Autism
  • Certificate in Clinical Competency from ASHA
Physical Involvement :
  • Sitting is required part of each work day.
  • Must be able to operate office equipment.
  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites.
  • Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
